OW TO REGISTER A MOVIE FOR THE FESTIVA 2009 ?

Registration period is now closed. Send your production for next year!

Please read the general registration rules, fill out the REGISTRATION FORM and send us two DVD copy (NTSC or PAL).

There are no registration fees.

1. General entry conditions
To be eligible for the competition, productions being submitted must answer the following requirements:

1.1 The registration file must be complete and must be received at our Montreal offices before midnight, July 31th, 2009, at the following address:

The registration file includes:
a) A duly completed registration form.

b) Two DVD copy of your film (NTSC or PAL); PLEASE NOTE THAT BETACAM AND MINI-DV FORMAT ARE NOT ACCEPTED.

If your production is chosen to take part in the Official Selection, we will contact you to obtain:

  • Two Professionals DVD copy (NTSC or PAL) to project on wide screen (if not already submitted). This material must be received at our offices at least one month prior to the festival.
  • 4 images related to the document and presented in digital form (300 or more dpi, tif, jpg). These images can be sent either by email at infofestiva@espaces.qc.ca or on a CD by mail. Transfert by FTP is also available. Please note that if the film is selected for competition, these images must lend themselves, for promoting the Festival, to use without rights.

1.2 Documents must be presented either in an original French or English version. Documents with soundtracks in any language other than English or French, must have French or English subtitles.

1.3 The maximum length accepted for documents submitted is 70 minutes.

1.4 Priority will be granted, except justified exception, to productions having been realized in the four years preceding the festival.

1.5 Documents may be from any country of origin.

1.6 In no case whatsoever may the documents include commercial breaks.

1.7 Documents being submitted must answer the technical parameters described in the registration form.

1.8 More than one document may be presented by any given company or person.

Festival management reserves the right to refuse any document not respecting the entry conditions set forth.

2. Preselection and Jury
The Preselection Committee will view all documents presented for official selection. Subsequently, the selected documents will be presented to the Jury and to festivalgoers. The Jury will be made up of people representative of the various circles related to the Festival (adventure, filmmaking, directing, etc.) and its number will vary between 5 and 7 people. The Jury’s decisions are final.

3. Promotion
To ensure its promotion, the Festival may use images from the films being presented for competition as long as such excerpts are no longer than 3 minutes. This promotion may be addressed to television, to the written press, the web or to any other media deemed relevant. Holders of movie rights will not receive any payment for the use of these excerpts toward promotional ends. The Festival commits to making known its activities, as well as the films and videos it is presenting, to a maximum number of television- and movie-industry players (broadcasters, distributors and others).

4. Quebec tour
The FIFAM will carry out a Quebec tour. The management of the festival will make a selection of the films that will be presented during this tour and will communicate with the authorized contact (person registered on the Registration Form) to get the authorizations for these screenings.

5. Insurance
From their reception at the Festival offices, copies will be insured by the Festival against theft, loss and destruction. Competitors sending the original copy of a movie do so at their own risk. The FIFAM will not send back submitted copies to the senders unless a formal demand is made.

6. Registration fee for the competition
The Festival requires no registration fee whatsoever.
